Monitors are getting really cheap…
I ordered Rosie and myself new monitors on Monday and they showed up today. I only got us 24″ models, since neither of our macs can drive anything bigger. They were really super cheap, $169 with our discounts and they really look nice. With this purchase, I am finally able to retire the last CRT monitor in the house. I have had one attached to the servers in the closet for a long time now, I didn’t think it was big deal since it is turned off 99% of the time and I only ever need to see text on it. But with today’s upgrades and round of shuffles, it is now gone.
I also order myself a replace WRT54G router, which showed up yesterday. I purchased one of the originals a long time ago, specific to hack it for radio stuff, but never got around to the hacking. Basically I took a look a the amount of effort it was going to take to-do what I wanted and decided it wasn’t worth it. Well this weekend a the APRS Summer Gathering, someone showed off a cool distribution he built. Basically he took the OpenWRT package and added all the ham radio bits for making it work with packet radio. Then layered on top a really cool web based configuration to allow mere mortals to configure everything.
So this means the old WRT54G, which got put into service as a real router a while ago, needs to be replaced. (It will be modified to gain serial ports this weekend) So I ordered up one of the 54gL models and it will get Tomato added soon and put into service.
